Please excuse the lack of knowledge of this question, but I had some questions about the NOX signs.

First is the correct order: Puer, Puella, Vir, Mulier, and then Mater Triumphans? Or is Mater Triumphans only added for certain ritual occasions?

Second I am not following the significance of the signs to NOX or light withdrawn. I see the pairing of opposites, girl/boy, father/mother. But I am not seeing how they touch upon the darkness?

Hi Nero,

I won't comment on the first point as its been a while since I've used them and I don't want to lead you astray.

As for the second, my take is that its not so much the pairings that are important but the over coming of duality through the pairing. That union is the Night of Pan. However, as Crowley equates Pan with the feeling of speeding down a mountain and stopping yourself only as you are about to rush off a cliff, the unions have a special "tone" to them.

1. the order is correct.
2. as far as I know right now, Mater Triumphans is ritual specific.
3. the signs also enact the union of Pan(Kaos) and Babylon, 2=3 before the issue of manifestation.

This arrangement separates the N.O.X. Signs by gender. The signs of Puella and Mulier are further differentiated by their sexual attitude. Puella is also referred to as the Sign of Chastity, the virtue practiced in the 7th Degree of the OTO. Mulier is also referred to as the Sign of Babalon, who is characterized as a whore. The two Signs represent a bridge between the “celibate” Lovers Triad and the sexually active Hermit Triad of the OTO initiatory system.

I see that. The transcending of opposites. The annilination resulting in nothingness void which is the womb for the new creation and the next phase that is to come. The big bang that can only come after the big crunch.

BANG!!!

The boy with the erect unit and the bashful girl. The rutting bull and the sign of welcome. Gotcha! I didn't catch that until you said that, thank you.

Mater Triumphans being the result of the Night of Pan would only be used in certain instances. Makes sense.

Thank you both, brothers!
