I want to be quick to give credit where it's due here and point out that the term "archaic revival" is one that was initially introduced by the late Terence McKenna in 1991 in his book The Archaic Revival. As he used the term, it was principally applied to a revitalized interest in shamanic inebriants for the very same reasons that these held sway with shamanic peoples in antiquity.
The term has broader implications than Shamanism alone however and generally denotes a revitalized interest in all categories of magickal or mystical esoterica linking all the way back to the roots of civilization itself. In setting up these forums, it was reasoned that certain traditions are found to be so old as to completely defy any specific point of origin. The question was how to place these under some kind of common heading and the term Archaic Revivalism simply hounded me day and nite until I finally succumbed to its suggestion. Obviously a certain amount of pure guesswork was involved in making these determinations.
While I would never want to usurp McKenna's work in any way, I cannot help but think that he would be perfectly ok with this particular brand of thievery applied in exactly this kind of way. I am familiar enough with his work to be reasonably confident of this conclusion...
