I - Introduction
This will probably be the largest section of the course, as it has the most detail to go through. Expect periodic updates here over the next few days and weeks.
The Watchtowers make up an integral part of the Enochian system. Many of you may have seen those grids with all the seemingly random letters throughout them, and many of you may have wondered what the hell they were, what their purpose is, and how in God's name we're supposed to put such seemingly abstract material to good use.
The reality, however, is a lot more simple than it at first appears...

II - The Basic Layout
To begin things, Dee and Kelley received a large grid of squares called the Great Table. These squares were filled in with letters, and the names of Angels are derived therefrom, in various patterns which will be explained and illustrated further on in these lectures.
Here is an example of the Great Table, with some notable divisions already marked in. Some of the original images will not have these highlighted, which makes them more difficult to work with, so try to use these for now:
The Great Table
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/greattable.jpg
Note in the above that there is a large Black Cross dividing the Great Table. This is usually related to the four rivers of Eden (and New Jerusalem), which are spiritual in origin. These split the Great Table into four sections, each of which is called a Watchtower (or "Tablet of [insert blank]"), and these also seal the Watchtowers together, through Spirit. More on this will be discussed later, when we get to the Tablet of Union.
A Watchtower
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/watchtower.jpg
A single Watchtower looks like the above. Note that it too is divided into four sections by another cross, the Great Cross, which comprises of the central horizontal line (seven squares up or down) and both the central vertical lines (six squares from either side). The horizontal line is called the Linea Spiritus Sancti, or the "Line of the Holy Spirit". The left vertical line is called the Linea Patris or Linea Dei Patris, which is the "Line of the Father" or "Line of God the Father". Likewise, the right vertical line is called the Linea Filii or Linea Dei Filii, which is the "Line of the Son" or "Line of God the Son". As you can probably guess, this goes a long way to explain why there are two vertical lines, as these, in unison, comprise "God", whereas the horizontal line shows that the Holy Spirits runs throughout the entirety of things.
The Great Cross the Watchtower divides it into four sections, just like the Black Cross of the Great Table does. The Black Cross gives the Watchtowers or Main Angles, whereas the Great Cross of each Watchtower gives four sub-angles for that Watchtower, granting 16 in total.
A Sub-Angle
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/sub-angle.jpg
Each sub-angle, as depicted above, is again permeated by a cross. This cross is more familiar to most people as a Christian-style cross. It is often referred to as the Calvary Cross. There are no more divisions to be made at this point, however, as this is a very specific part of each Watchtower.
In Summary
To put things more simply:
1. We have a large square. This is the Great Table.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/greattable1.jpg
2. We divide this square into four quarters. Each of these quarters is a Watchtower.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/greattable2.jpg
3. We then divide each quarter into quarters, giving us 16 squares. These are the sub-angles of the Watchtowers, with four per Watchtower.

This concludes this lesson.

III - Hierarchy Of Watchtower Angels, Pt. 1 - Primary Angle Angels
Like most system of Angelic Magick (or, indeed, most systems of Magick - Solomonic, Goetic, etc.), there is a definite hierarchy of spiritual beings present. The next few posts will detail the main ones in relation to the Watchtowers, with this first post concentrating on the angels relevant to the primary angle itself.
Great Elemental King (GEK)
The "ruler" of the entire tablet, or, as some see it (me included), the essence of the tablet itself (consider the tablet as a place and a being). These are the most primal "entities" of each tablet and their name is derived from the Seal that was given with each tablet (the derivations of names will be covered in another lecture). In many cases, this name is rarely mentioned in books or essays on this system, as it is more "obscure" and "abstract". These are so powerful and, indeed, dangerous, that I will not post an example name here (if you’re really foolish, you can look it up yourself ;)).
Three-fold Holy Name (Three Holy Names of God)
This is not a "being", per se, but the three most holy names of God for that tablet (or, as some see it, a "three-fold" name). This name is derived from the central horizontal line of each tablet (called the Linea Spiritus Sancti), reading from left to right, and comprises of 12 letters divided into 3, 4, and 5 (such as ORO IBAH AOZPI of the Air tablet (or ORO tablet for "Dee purists" who dislike elemental attributions).
Solar King (Elemental King)
This angel is often seen as the "ruler" of the entire tablet (usually when the GEK isn't mentioned), and is attributed to Sol (which is why we use the name Solar King, as opposed to the G.'.D.'. name of Elemental King, which tends to cause confusion with the GEK). This name is derived from a spiral (or "whorl") pattern in the centre of each tablet (for example, BATAIVAH in the Air tablet).
Seniors
These six angles are planetary in nature, and when they are grouped with the other Seniors of the other tablets (numbering 24 in total), are often linked to the 24 Elders in Revelation. These names are derived from the “cross” structure at the centre of the tablet (splitting it into four sub-angles), the Linea Spiritus Sancti, Linea Filli, and Linea Patris, and they are read from the central squares outwards, to number six 7-letter names. These are the primary beings of the system that are concerned with the “welfare” of the human race. An example is HIPOTGA, the Senior of Saturn of Air.
These are the four main “names” that rule each primary angle (i.e. the entire Watchtower). To delve deeper, we have to go into a “sub-angle” - I will post the hierarchy of the sub-angles in the next post, and then post once more to briefly mention the “hierarchy” of the Tablet of Union. After that we will explore how these names are derived from the Tablets.

IV - Hierarchy Of Watchtower Angels, Pt. 2 - Sub-Angle Angels
While the names in the post above detail the rulers of the entire Tablet, the following only apply for each specific sub-angle, and represent more specialised forces.
Angels of Call & Command (Calvary Cross Angels)
In each "sub-angle", there is another cross, though this one doesn't divide it equally, but is more typical of the "Christian cross" we are familiar with. This cross bears the names of two angels, one reading downwards, the other reading from left to right. The first is the Angel of Call, and the second is the Angel of Command (invoke and affirm, as it were), though the G.'.D.'. refers to these as "Calvary Cross" angels (based on the name of the type of cross). These are the "rulers" of that sub-angle, and they are usually called first (or close to first) before "moving down the ranks" to get to more "minor" angels. An example is IDOIGO and ARDZA in the Air (ORO) tablet.
Archkerubim/Kerubim
Above the cross in each sub-angle are four squares (two on either side), and the name from these squares is that of the Kerubic Angel (or Kerub), which is quite "high in the ranks" in each sub-angle. There are four of these, each taking a permutation (or rotation) of that four lettered name (i.e. ABCD, BCDA, CDAB, and DABC). There is also a "superior" to these in the form of an Archkerub, which is the four-lettered name with a prefix letter derived from the appropriate section of the Tablet of Union, and this applies to other angels as well, but that will be explained further in another lesson. An example is RZLA (Archkerub: ERZLA) in the Air tablet.
Ruling Angels
I'm unsure if these are cited in the original material or the G.'.D.'. material (it's been a while since I looked, but I don't think they are), but either way, they make a logical addition (not to mention a practical "instrument") to the way we use the sub-angles. The Call Angel reads downwards in the central line of five columns in each sub-angle, leaving two columns on either side (with six letters each). These columns can be read downwards in exactly the same way as the Call Angel, giving the four ruling angels of that sub-angle. These are basically subordinates to the Kerubim, yet the "rulers" of the Servient Angels which are the "angelic ranks", as it were, at the lower end of the scale. An example is RACTSF in the Air tablet.
Servient Angels
These names are read as if they were the Command Angel or Kerubic Angel (i.e. left to right), in the four rows under the Command Angel's name (not including the central squares which make up the name of the Call Angel). There are four permutations of each name, leading to 16 of this rank (all with elemental associations, as per the G.'.D.'. tradition, or they are "rulers" over certain qualities, being skilled in "medicine" or "discovery" and other things that are typical of old grimoires). These are the "lowest" angel in the system, though there is one more "rank" that follows. An example is CZNS in the Air tablet.
Cacodaemons
These are derived from the names of the Servient Angels, though these only have two letters, instead of four (if we consider each letter a part of the "anatomy", they can be seen as [I]less developed beings, and are thus attributed to the "basic nature" of ourselves, which the Angels feel we should bind [like lust, greed, envy, paranoia, etc.]). These can be prefixed, like the rest, but they are not to be summoned under any circumstances other than binding (that is the strict order of the Angels, though feel free to break it at your peril), and even then, this is to be considered advanced work, which most magicians leave 'til they have become more accustomed to the system. I will not give any examples of these.
My next post will be on the basic hierarchy of the Tablet of Union, but there are plenty of other "ranks" and groupings of angels within the system which you needn't concern yourself with at the moment for getting a basic overview of Enochian.

V - Hierarchy Of Watchtower Angels, Pt. 3 - Tablet Of Union
The Tablet of Union is a small tablet comprised of four five-letter names given in the Black Cross (it was called this because it was coloured black by Kelley - it isn't a name to denote some kind of negative quality to it) of the Great Table. This forms a 4X5 grid of 20 squares, with each five-letter name being attributed to one of the Watchtowers (EXARP to Air/ORO, HCOMA to Water/MPH, NANTA to Earth/MOR, and BITOM to Fire/OIP). This "grid" looks somewhat like the following:
EXARP
HCOMA
NANTA
BITOM
EHNB - Spirit of Spirit
EHNB is a name read downwards, comprising the first letter of each of the Elemental Names, and is considered to be the "supreme" ruler of the Watchtower system (bar God Himself). Lon Milo Duquette compares this being to Metatron, and others compare him to Christ (all of which are reasonably accurate comparisons), but this name can also be "rotated" to give four permutations, each giving a different "elemental face" of this spirit being.
Elemental Names - Horizontal
These are the names that people are most familiar with - EXARP, HCOMA, NANTA, and BITOM. They are attributed to each tablet in order, as mentioned previously.
Elemental Names - Vertical
Less commonly used are the four Elemental Names that are read downwards, in the same manner as EHNB. These are sometimes read from the first square down (XCAI, AONT, etc.), or they are read "one square down", as it were, from the primary elemental letter (Air of Air: X - so XCAI; Water of Water: O - so ONTA; etc.).

VI - Hierarchy Of Watchtower Angels, Pt. 4 - Governors
There are 91 Governors, associated with the Aethyrs, and these draw from the Great Table as a whole, so they don't definitively belong in any of the other categories.
Governors
These are, in my opinion, both "beings" and "places". Their names are derived from seemingly random sigils across the entirety of the Great Table, and they are attributed to the 30 Aethyrs (3 each, barring the odd one or two, which have 4). Their names are often called the "places of the earth", which lead many to think they are not actually beings, but that's really irrelevant, as they are almost always used in conjunction with the Aethyrs, regardless of what their "official nature" actually is.

VII - Derivation Of Names, Pt. 1 - Primary Watchtower Angles
[Note: These images are based on those supplied by VVV (Fr. Manjet) in his original Enochian primer over at OF a year or so ago. Some of the images in my next post will be the ones he used in that primer, so credit must go to him for his work on them.]
Three-fold Name (Three Holy Names of God)
To get this name, take the central line (the Linea Spiritus Sancti) of the Great Cross of a chosen Watchtower and read from left to right, taking the first 3 letters, then the next 4, then the next 5. To illustrate:
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/threefold-name.jpg
Solar King
To get this name, go to the centre of the Tablet, starting with the fifth square of the Linea Spiritus Sancti (from the left) and go clockwise in the manner shown below. Note that in the original material you would choose only one of the two central squares, depending on whether you wanted to approach through either extreme of Mercy or Severity (as in the two outer pillars of the Qabalah, which I feel highlights how useful Qabalistic knowledge is when it comes to Enochian). I, personally, feel that this overcomplicates this being, and using both letters takes both elements into consideration, giving the whole of the being, rather than just the merciful or severe side. Feel free to use whatever works for you.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/solarking.jpg
Seniors
To get these names, start in one of the two central squares of the Great Cross of a given Tablet and read outward along one of the Linea, until you acquire a seven-letter name. For the two along the Linea Spiritus Sancti, you will require both of the central squares to make up their name, whereas the other four Seniors (along the Linea Patris and Linea Filii) will take only one of these central squares. The following image shows their planetary association:
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/seniors2.jpg
My next post will deal with the derivation of Enochian names within a sub-Angle.

VIII - Derivation Of Names, Pt. 2 - Sub-Angle Angels
[Note: These images are supplied by VVV (Fr. Manjet), coming from his Enochian Primer a year or so ago on OF, so credit must go to him for them.]
Call & Command Angels
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/angelsofcallandcommand.png
To get these names, consult the white calvary cross at the centre of a given sub-angle. The vertical name (numbered 1), starting from the top and ending at the bottom, summing 6 letters, is the Call Angel, while the horizontal name (numbered 2), starting from the left and ending at the right, summing 5 letters, is the Command Angel.
Kerubim
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/kerubicangels.png
To get these names, check the four letters above the cross (on either side of the central white square of the top row) and read from left to right. The other three names can be garnered through the same means by permutating the name, moving one step to the right each time. Permutation will be covered in more depth in a subsequent lecture.
Ruling Angels
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/greaterrulingangels.png
To get these names, take a column on either side of the column that grants the name of the Call Angel and read from top to bottom, including the letter from the horizontal line that makes up the name of the Command Angel. This gives four 6-letter names, each of which rules a Servient Angel (or group of four permutated Servient Angels) in turn. This will be explained in full in the permutation lesson.
Servient Angels
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/lesserservientangels.png
To get these names, take the four rows below the row that grants the name of the Command Angel and read from left to right, taking the two letters on either side of the white vertical line that makes up the name of the Call Angel (thereby granting a four-letter Servient Angel name). Like the Kerubim, these names can be permutated, giving 16 in total for each sub-angle. It's important to note, however, that the first Servient Angel is actually the one at the bottom, with the second above it, the third above that, and the fourth above that (just under the white horizontal line of the Command Angel). Some traditions, however, may use it in the opposite formation.

IX - Derivation Of Names, Pt. 3 - Tablet Of Union Angels
Next we have the Tablet of Union angels, which come in a variety of forms:
Horizontal Elemental Angels
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-1.jpg
These names are derived by taking each row and reading across, producing four five-letter names. These are EXARP, HCOMA, NANTA, and BITOM, and were originally derived from the names of the three Governors of the Aethyr ZAX and then placed in the central "Black Cross" of the Great Table (twice, in a "mirror" form). Dee was commanded to take these and set them in a table, which we now know today as the Tablet of Union. Many believe this was an addition by the Golden Dawn, but it has sound backing in the diaries themselves. These are some of the most commonly heard of angels (or, perhaps more correctly, "forces") in the Enochian system, and are often employed as part of Enochian rituals.
EHNB
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-2.jpg
This name is derived from the first veritcal line on the left-hand side, is read downward, and comprises of the first letter of each of the four Elemental Names mentioned above. This being is the "Metatron" of Enochian, and the name can be permutated like others in the Enochian system. To do this, follow these diagrams:
1. EHNB - Air variant
Given above.
2. HNBE - Water variant
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-3a.jpg
3. NBEH - Earth variant
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-3b.jpg
4. BEHN - Fire variant
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-3c.jpg
Vertical Elemental Angels
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s22/yechidah/tou-4.jpg
The next four names are derived in the same manner as EHNB by taking the next four collumns and reading downwards, deriving four four-letter names. Technically speaking, EHNB is a vertical name, but EHNB is Spirit, whereas these next four names are more distinctly elementally biased. These are: XCAI, AONT, RMTO , and PAAM.
There are some possible variations to reading these names, but they will need to be saved for later.

Yechidah.
