http://abrahadabra.com/images/firebullet.sm.gif Introduction:
Magick, in the broadest sense, is any act designed to cause intentional change. The spelling with the terminal "k" was repopularized in the first half of the 20th century by Aleister Crowley when he introduced it as a core component of Thelema. - source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magick)

Recommended Reading List for Ceremonial Magick

I. Old School
1. Three Books of Occult Philosophy (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0875428320?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0875428320&adid=1KQ5FVPZS0HHHGTHQEY5&) by Henry Cornelius Agrippa

2. Book 4 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0877285136?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0877285136&adid=1KP6PCYG41SYVCH39DE5&)by Aleister Crowley
3. The Tree of Life (http://www.amazon.com/dp/1567181325?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=1567181325&adid=05FBGH7TXBC3TQ2T9J4J&) by Israel Regardie
4. The Middle Pillar (http://www.amazon.com/dp/1567181406?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=1567181406&adid=04CVZMC1S3PE3WFS5AZP&)by Israel Regardie

Now this list is no where near completed, I consider these the corner stone of a magicians library. The beginnings but a grand one, really with only half this list you would be a great magician.

Now beginners on a budget, listen up! PDF files are your best friends, find as many as you can till you can afford the real thing.

For the pure beginner I would recommend:
1. Modern Magick (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0875423248?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0875423248&adid=01EHXQE7D9SC2RYE68MA&) by Donald Michael Kraig
This will explain the basics and give you a good foot hold to spread your wings, next purchase
2. The Golden Dawn (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0875426638?tag=abrahadabraco-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0875426638&adid=0GXTSNQNPHT7MV0W1JFJ&)by Israel Regardie
This will have all the rituals to keep you busy for years as well as material to memorize.
For basics of Qabalah grab:
3. The Mystical Qabalah and a tarot deck. Expand as needed.

These three alone should keep you busy for some time.

My last bit of advice, once you think you are starting to understand and know a bit, read Magick in Theory and Practice. Then reread it once a year and watch it grow as you do.

Essays from Ramsey Dukes
A series of short essays addressing objections raised by critics of magic - try them out on your skeptical friends!

1. Does Our Society Need Magic? (http://occultebooks.com/Default.aspx?tabid=125)
Without an understanding of Magic's place alongside Religion, Art and Science, we are prone to superstition.

2. Does Science Lead to Magic? (http://occultebooks.com/Default.aspx?tabid=126)
A challenge to the idea that Magic is a primitive forerunner of Science.

3. Magic as the Pursuit of Whole Brain Solutions (http://occultebooks.com/Default.aspx?tabid=127)
The human tendency to anthropomorphise natural phenomena is not superstition but a sophisticated problem-solving technique.

4. Is Science more sensible than Magic? (http://occultebooks.com/Default.aspx?tabid=128)
Ramsey Dukes questions the notion that Science equals realism whereas Magic is escapist fantasy.

5. From Hunter/Gatherer to Cultivater (http://occultebooks.com/Default.aspx?tabid=129)
Whereas Science and Religion share a questing spirit (the search for Meaning, God or Truth) the philosophical approach of both Magic and Art is more like a cultivation or creation of Truth or Meaning.
