View Full Version : Instantaneuous Sporadic Gnosis or: ISG.
Does anyone else here experience what I term, instantaneous sporadic gnosis? It could be considered very similar to an extreme moment of clarity, and epiphany of sorts, but what distinguishes it from that in my opinion is the profound sense of vacancy and totality that one gets in an ISG moment. It is like that moment when you are everythinga nd nothing and you know what you know because it just is, a sort of melding with the Tao so to speak.
If you do experience moments like this, are they usually triggered by something or are they totally random? What significance do you feel they have?
I've been having these quite a bit lately and been sort of surprised by how "pure" they seem, as opposed to other sorts of epiphany.

Some people do experience this and it does not depend on which religious or spiritual path they are on but seems to be more like a state of being reached after deep thought or meditation.
Seems to be quite hard to describe accurately, though others who have had the same thing seem to know instantly when someone else speaks of it.
I have had those profound states myself in past years and the trigger seems to have been a regular meditation time and place and the ability to let go of thoughts and concerns and to be able to focus upon a mandala or picture or something of that nature and be in a state of relaxation.
I have found them to be life changing experiences, a way of cutting through materialism and worldly concerns, so you return able to function but not tied to the earthly existence.

A very good ay of putting it, that last sentence.
I have been experiencing them very often for years. At first, it was random although I consider this sort of direct Experience to be the essence and goal behind all approaches towards spiritual Becoming itself, so I've been focusing on evoking them systematically in recent years. It works too, although there are many aspects of the 'how' that are largely indescribable, much like the experience itself. In yogic terminology, this is described as "ne'ti, ne'ti", meaning "Not this, not this" in Sanskrit. This is due to the fact that this is essentially a dissolutional experience, a direct merging with that which transcends Duality and particularization, a "melding with the Tao" as you describe it Aodh. So it's essence is anti-analytical and non-definitional by nature, being perhaps 'defined' as the backward retracing of the steps analysis takes to manifest.
Over time and repeated scrutiny, you find such experiences to be of various depths and you also begin to understand the main triggers etc...I feel that it is an experience that is the definition of transcendental knowledge, direct understanding of one's nature, and also the source of all "siddhis", or psychic abilities. I also find it deeply connected with the direct aim of Kundalini-yoga.

this is something i experience on a regular basis, and its in direct correlation with my zen meditation practice, simply put using physical reality and your interaction within it as a means of reminding yourself to stay present within the moment instead of getting lost in the abstract of thought and emotion.
its not a easy practice, at first your constantly struggling to remind yourself to stay in the moment "by stating to yourself having a believed thought of.." but after a certain amount of time a line gets crosssed where everything simply becomes a reminder to stay in the present moment and the practice becomes less about forcing the experience and more about simply experiencing.
