Danisty found us a new toy to play around with I think will prove useful as well as catchy. In your textboxes (advanced only) you'll see a new SHOW/HIDE icon that will allow you to hide elements of your post to be opened and closed by readers at will.

You can use it for fast quizzes or jokes:

Question: What's the difference between a New Ager and Pagan?
About $500.00 per/weekend!
You can use it to fold up pics:

You can fold up bulleted lists or links or long strings of text (and more) and you have all the same editing capabilities you would have with your usual textbox...plus you can use multiple Hidden boxes in a single post...

Try not to abuse it to death...we're plugging it in on a trial basis...

thanks gang,

Say, might there be a handy list
of various basic codes/shortcuts...?

When is a snake most likely to erupt...?

When it's molten... :p

They're already regretting this.

(lol)...:yes: :laugh: (that was a good one though MythMath)

Say, might there be a handy list
of various basic codes/shortcuts...?Well, you can find most, if not all of these that are avaiallable on the top of the advanced 'post reply' panel, in the form of buttons.

Also look here (http://bb.bbboy.net/man/BbCode.html) and here (http://www.toolblast.com/archive/index.php/t-1868.html) for a few other ideas (keep in mind though, not all of these are avaiallable here). The 'list' command is a fun feature though...so is 'highlight'...

...??...I guess so...

Anyway, I suppose most of the commands can be understood even though the links don't work. By substituting the "[ ]" with "{ }" (in order to portray this), you would have

{highlight} *your test here* {/highlight}

{indent} *your test here* {/indent}

{code} *your test here* {/code}

etc...of course, some other commands require further BBcode in order to properly function, like {url} or {image}, although most of these can be easily used through the shortcut buttons in the advanced text editor for posts...

An interesting feature that is often not realized is the following: by using the command {quote=Username} *quoted text* {/quote}, and substituting 'Username' with what may be appropriate at the time, one can influence the bold text we see after the "originally posted by" message. Also, you may add ';postnumber' after the username, substituting 'postnumber' with the number of the post you're quoting from (as that is depicted when you pass your mouse pointer over it in the 'topic review' found under the text editor when replying to a post). This is helpful when you want to quote aspects of various posts in one joint reply post of your own, something that many members seem to find kind of hard to do at times due to the fact that the extended quote command I described above usually works automatically only after pressing the "Quote" button in someone else's post instead of "Post Reply"...

EDIT: Hey, this is actually already covered as part of our vBulletin board FAQ...check this (http://www.forums.abrahadabra.com/misc.php?do=bbcode) out...

You know, that little 'hello world!' textbox once the page loads is hilarious...seems like they forgot to remove it when programming the page, lol..."Hello World!" is a classic test output text when programming output commands etc...It's usually the first program anyone learns, and many programmers get so used to it in their initial training that they keep on using it for their own tests when they are actually working in the field...

Lol...me neither...at least I haven't clicked it until now, although I always wondered :laugh: . I've been seeing it for at least 5 years in various vBulletin sites...it's in the 'Posting Rules' box, bottom of the page and to the left. Click the 'vB Code' link...it'll get you there. Handy FAQ...too bad I have found most of that out through trial and error...
