View Full Version : FlashChat Operational!!!
I'd like to inform everyone that Abrahadabra Forums has now completed the process of adding FlashChat, and can be readily used by you all. FlashChat is an online chat program which we decided would very well fill our needs here. Thanks to Frater SI for suggesting it.
Also, concerning that discussion we had concerning security, I should note that FlashChat is integrated to vBulletin and is based on a private server, like the forum itself, making it as secure as can be regarding such endeavors.
Finally, I should note one apparent glitch the program is experiencing that we are uncertain how to outmaneouver. It's not much, but needs to be said. It seems like FlashChat has a problem identifying special characters (those that can be used through Alt+####), so anyone having such characters as part of their password will be unable to log into chat unless they are substituted with non-special characters.
I hope you like the new addition...enjoy,
Kain, on behalf of the Administration Team

At the bottom of your screen's you'll find a new feature that tells you whose using FlashChat...pretty handy little plug-in...
We'll add a few things to it as they come up...

yeah...it's not too bad at all. I'd like a little more functionality. Got a bit spoiled with mIRC and assorted offshoots but I like where FlashChat is headed and it interfaces really well with vBulletin etc...
Limited skin options...I'm looking into that...love the speed though...

A few little tidbits from our own experience with Flashchat .. Change your Font color it helps to discern users a little easier. You can use the save button to record your chat log or report any Abuse to the mods .. By right clicking on a user you can initiate a private offline chat outside the lounge area. And most of all think before you hit the send button :) People think a little better when typing out a forum post .. In the chat be nice :)

I really like the idea of being able to use this feature for classroom discussions as well since Instructors can easily set up chatroom extensions (as needed) and even password protect them if they like. Pretty versatile little add-on...

I'm probably missing something here - when I click on flashchat, I get a window that says "Incorrect User name or password" - but I haven't typed anything in yet. When I DO type in my name and password, it just comes up again. Any ideas what's up with that?

first...do you have any special keyboard characters in your password? This is one downside to this system...it can't read special keyboard characters. In that case you will have to set another password without them. I didn't like this personally but there's nothing I can do about it for now. I am looking into the problem.
To get the latest free installation of flash, go here:
Adobe Flash Player Download Center Windows (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash)
Let me know how it goes and remember...if you are having this problem, someone else is having it too...

Adobe bought Macromedia by the way...so both links will work the same...
ticks me off though...Adobe is a great company but I don't like the idea of them f*cking with Dreamweaver etc...
Their own GoLive was a disaster...
oh well...

And no m1thr0s no funny keyboard thingies...
I'm trying all this now and if I stay conscious tonight (tired not drunkl) I'll see if I can get in there. Late night chats are energzing when I have to pull an all nighter...

also when you log on be sure to check the little "remember me" box to make sure your cookies are activated (that always feels weird saying that to a woman)...
so...how are your cookies doing, anyway?...lol...
never mind...you needn't answer that on my account...
they should probably call them acorns for men and cookies for women...hehe...
man, I really need to activate my acorns..lol...
or how about...oh shit...I just deleted my acorns!...ok...enough of this...

the special characters issue seems to have been mostly resolved although I am still finding that some special characters do not appear to be recognized. There may be some other issue with my own password though. For the mostpart, I think you can now use special characters in your passwords if you like. I've never seen anything quite like this so I don't completely have the answer. If one pass doesn't work, try something else for now... My current pass DOES use special characters and it's getting through just fine.

Rejects me with incorrect username / password...
No dodgy chars in my password either...

Hmmm for some reason I cannot get into Flash Chat.
I tried it Friday and just clicked it and went straight into it. Today (Monday) I click it and after it loads it says I have the incorrect name or password. I type in name and password but won't let me in.
I am not sure what the problem is. Like I said it worked friday.

try resetting your forum password.
That's weird Nero...do try resetting your forum password though, I think it's likely to be resolved once again...

I had to reset mine as well...not sure what the problem is but once it was reset it's been doing fine.
let us know if that works please Nero so others will have some clue what might work for them also.

Nero - it occurs to me that we can reset your pass on this end as well but we'll need to know what you want it to be. I don't need to know what your old pass was since I can just override that in the Admin CP. So if you'd rather go that route, just PM me with the new pass and I'll set it for you.

I just reset fera's password today by the way and she's able to logon to FlashChat just fine so this seems to be working as a strategy. I didn't have the boards turned off when I installed it and there was nothing from them to indicate that I needed to do so, but it may have impacted people who might have been logged in at the time...I'm just not sure. It only seems to have affected a few.
If you don't want to go through the hassle of setting a new password through email confirmations, send me the new pass and I'll set it manually. Then you'll need to completely log out and re-log in with the new password.

I changed my password and it still is not working. My firewall is off and I am allowing scripts to run for this site. Not sure what the problem is. You can try resetting it again on your side to see if that works.
The odd thing is it worked fine last week.

Ok - you'll need to PM or email me the pass you want to use.
note: might want to try it one last time before you do. I corrected a setting on your account that probably won't affect anything visible, but it might affect chatroom logins...
I would also clear your Abrahadabra Forums cookie first.

Frater Yechidah:
log out completely. clear your AF cookie. log back in and see if that fixed it.
If not I'll need to have you send me your new pass and set it manually.
I'm framing these of course and will be offering them for bid on eBay shortly...
