View Full Version : FlashChat: The War Room...

...was supposed to just be a test. Private rooms apparently disappear if nobody is physically in them. The War Room was set up in the Admin Control Panel as a "permanent" private, pass-protected room which I may leave in place for awhile. It's not meant to keep anybody out...the pass is viaov...so anybody here is free to come or go there...
Select The War Room from your drop-down menu and FC will prompt you for the pass. You'll need it each time you enter...
cheers,

 How about we don't abbreviate FlashChat like that....it just feels like it's inviting trouble.

It doesn't appear to be permanent.

Why do you say that Naomi?...it's still there! Or at least I can see it and get into it...The password has to be entered every time you go into the room though...that part isn't permanent...
m1thr0s
I think the room is only permanently visible to the creator? I think PRIVATE makes it a room only you can see, because you can still make public's with a password I think. (I know I joined a few times since you made this thread and I can't see The War Room in the drop-down list)

Yeah dude it wasn't in the dropdown menu this morning.
Me and Naomi just did a little mild trouble-shooting and realized that first off, you can't be in more than one room at once, and that "private" makes a room visible only to it's creator and thus an "Invite-only" room. So if you made a permanent "public" version of The War Room with the same password, it would be visible to us all. (We still wouldn't be able to be in it AND the Lounge at the same time though)

that's weird...try refreshing your screens...
It should be visible to anybody...

I saw it this morning but didn't go in, might try again now to see if it works for me.

I see what's going on...it's still visible to moderators/admins either way but invisible to registered members...
I went ahead and made it public...same pass...

It seems I can only be in one room at a time too. Is there a PM function out of interest?

Ah yes, I get it, thanks m1thr0s : )
The War Room seems to be working fine now...for some reason Flash Chat causes my Internet Explorer to crash when I close it's window though...not sure why. Does anybody else get this? I didn't at first although I constantly get it since yesterday...

nope...and no problems logging in either...weird. I wonder if all of these problems have to do with it utilizing browser windows though...seems like you could run into conflicts with security settings, popup settings, cookie settings and various other things...
FlashChat has its own support forum at http://forum.tufat.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5

I have freezes and/or crashes every time I try to go to
another window and then try to return to flashchat...
[I'm on IE and WinME, btw]

well anyone who can help me sort this out is free to try...
I really don't get it since some of us are experiencing none of these things at all...
I don't want to have to dump this thing is we can keep it. There must be some rational explanation somewhere...

My old wheezy PC is probably my problem...
Kain, are you on an old box, too...?

well anybody can check out that support forum (http://forum.tufat.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5) and you don't have to buy anything to register & post as near as I can tell...
I'll be looking into these things but it would help if others did so as well...
we may need to come up with a list of things we need to know in order to trouble-shoot correctly. FlashChat recommends:
Getting Support
In order for us to supply better and faster support, please provide the following infomation in your initial support post(s):
FlashChat Version
New Install or upgrade? If upgrade, from what version and did it work?
Install type: Free For All (statelessCMS), registration required (defaultCMS) or Integrated (see next).
Integrated with a forum or CMS script? If so, which one and what version.
Are you using a host service or a dedicated server.
Server's OS system.
Server's php and mysql versions.
If it's not working, a url to your chat folder would help. You may want to remove the install files first. For server-side issues...we may need to come up with a similar list for client-side problems as well...

A few things I have discovered so far:
• Anyone using Internet Explorer 7 may experience a higher incidence of problems than with IE6 since the developer of FC does not feel IE7 is yet stable enough to build around.
• Very few problems have been reported using Firefox (from anything I have seen at the support forums)...
• The latest version of Flash Player is highly recommended (v9 at this writing). Older versions may not work at all in some cases.
• Clearing your flash cookies may resolve browser instability issues.
• Choosing a new password will reset user default settings and works like a kind of *reboot* if you are having persistent login problems
That's all for now...I will add to these pointers as I uncover more of them...

My old wheezy PC is probably my problem...
Kain, are you on an old box, too...?Oh yes...quite old...so that could quite probably be my problem as well.
By the way, thanks for this list of hints m1thr0s, much appreciated.
Kain
