5 Mar 2001"The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, allows South African (http://www.rotten.com/library/history/countries/south-africa/) research scientists from the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria to analyze twenty-four pipe fragments found on the grounds of William Shakespeare's home. The findings, published in the South African Journal of Science, show that eight of the pipes tested contain traces of cannabis (http://www.rotten.com/library/crime/drugs/marijuana/) and two of the pipes contain traces of cocaine. Others appear to be laced with tobacco, camphor, and hallucinogenic nutmeg extracts high in myristic acid."

Yes, this has been known, or suspected for some time. I have even seen the pipes (unless they were fake copies for tourists). It wasn't that long ago when society deemed natural herbs of all kinds to be good instead of bad. The old Queen of England (pre-this one) used to have a joint to help her sleep.
I am pro-choice not pro-ban!
Legalize!
Besides if Shakespear was mashed up on Coke and such then it stregthens the theory, by Manly P. Hall, that Bacon wrote all the plays!

Oh, you might be correct there. I am not home at the moment so I can't double check with my private library of books (that would place me on the stake a few hundred years ago). Perhaps it was someone else, Colin Wilson, perhaps who implied it. Anyway there is a theory that Bacon hired Shakespear as a frontman for his creative side.
True or false what really caught my attention in all this, and this I know to be the true source, was that Colin Wilson argued that Shakespear was a pretty bad writer. Till I read this I had seen him as skilled and good with verse, and read a lot of his works, but this opened my eyes. His plays are shit. The subjects are not that intelligent or even mind blowing, plots are silly with bickering kings and upset wives and gossip. Compared to other playwrights he is mediocre despite the fact that he has coined many phrases and proverbs if you like.
Goethe or Pinter crush him like a bug!

I wonder if the British got their Gunja when they were travelling overseas?
Cannabis has been used in Tantric practice for eons, so it would not be surprising to know that a lot of its use for transcendence was passed onto other cultures.
The Hindus also take cannabis in milk called bhang, and I bet it does lol!
Now why is the Dalai Lama really happy all the time? does he ingest by chopping it up and eating it or drinking it, who knows?
MMMMM HASH COOKIES.
Today though its so different because cannabis has all been mass marketed and polluted by nasty chemical toxins which stuff up your brain instead of liberate it.
Exploitation of natural things by greed as usual.
here is an article about the origins of cannabis use in tantra.

I've made a drink called Hot Buttered Bhang before: tasty stuff! And if you were unaware, ingested marijuana has a completely different feel and high than smoked marijuana.
