Thanks Naomi, that's too cool ~ I don't know what it says about me, but the military applications of these things were the first thing to pop into my head...

Martial influence there...from a more Venusian standpoint one could say: why not make robots who are :more: beautiful than human beings, more enchanting creatures, having utterly authentic silver or golden or violett hair, rainbow coloured eyes etc...that would be cool! (and also inspirational to us humes)

Cybernetic implants would be a plus...

yeah in that direction- or imagine we could mutate our genes on an every day basis, restructure our own being from a very basal level- like decide: today I want Blue hair...ok I fire up the m1thr0sian converters and..no prob..

I saw this today and it reminded me of this thread: ;)

Here's a really awesome program run by Nasa called the Robotics Alliance Program:

Something seems strange though, that the robotics coming out of Japan such as the lady and such are more exciting and in the case of the serpent, more cutting edge than most of the stuff you see here in the U.S. really. They love robots in Japan - I guess because they are aesthetically exciting and new. The Japanese also love high technology, as in the case of the Katana, for instance.

Slashdot 2005 article I always found funny:

From the article: 'What seems to set Japan apart from other countries is that few Japanese are all that worried about the effects that hordes of robots might have on its citizens. Nobody seems prepared to ask awkward questions about how it might turn out. If this bold social experiment produces lots of isolated people, there will of course be an outlet for their loneliness: they can confide in their robot pets and partners. Only in Japan could this be thought less risky than having a compassionate Filipina drop by for a chat.'"

Yeah you see Im no fool either- its the aesthetics that are also cooler paired with less prejudice of what is "natural" and what not and the fact that the US is a *bit* paranoid. Yet its not to be underestimated either...makes some powerful stuff, too if given time...

I had a colleague with who I studied Japanese language and swapped animes in the early 90s he was sooo otaku- thick glasses, small mustache, a bit obese had never a gf...but his major was AI, later he went to To Dai (Tokyo Daigaku- AI dep.) if I'll meet him again I'll ask him about the latest stuff...we always got along well, you know, nice guy.
