Recently, in an attempt to balance out an overly active Hod in my being, I have been informally invoking the energies of Netzach. Put another way, I was getting too crazy with pursuits of the mind and I needed to balance that out with some care. In doing so, I've discovered some interesting co-inside-inces (things coming together inside of me) relating to the heart.
Netzach is the sphere of Venus, and hence love. The color of Netzach is green, and so is that of the heart chakra. The element that coresponds to the heart chakra is air. The platonic solid that corresponds to air according to Plato is the octahedron. The octahedron points up and down, and the heart chakra is in the middle of the chakras, reflecting the confluence of heaven and earth. If a frame made out of the edges of an octahedron is tilted in such a way, one can see the pattern of the magen star. The magen star consists of two intersecting triangles, one upward pointing and one downward pointing, representing the integration of polarities fire and water, masculine and feminine, (and to stretch it a bit) self and other, hence love. The planetary symbol for Venus consists of a circle and a cross, which in this treatsie have been used to represent the yoni and the lingam. Going back to air, I like to think of the in and out breath as making love with the universe, and actually, if you breath deeply while lying down, you'll notice your hips rocking forward and backwards.
On a more manifest level, the heart is known to be a perceptive organ that recieves signals before the brain does, and even contains brain-like cells like synapses and neurons. Its perception allows us to relate to others, and "read them". I found this out when I listened to a podcast episode of Healing the Earth http://www.rabble.ca/rpn/podcast.php?id=hea called "The Lost Language of Plants" http://www.rabble.ca/rpn/episode.shtml?x=53683 , an interview with Stephen Buhner about his book of the same title (which I now feel compeled to read).
And in the cultural sphere, Friday is the day associated with Venus, and, umm... remember that song "It's Friday, I'm in love" by the Cure . Saul Williams has declared "the heart is the philosopher's stone", and I'm coming to understand what he meant by that. And of course, your references are welcome. And just in case I hadn't cheezed out m1thr0s enough with my counting mage song, I drafted this children's song while I was cleaning (giving care to space) last Friday
The Heart Song
Air and care, ya care and air
Each one's near the heart
Care and air, ya air and care
Of both I am a part
There's air in care and care in air
Let me demonstrate
Both a feature of the heart
And so they do relate
When I need some care
I start with a deep breath
I know that is the first step
To put dis-ease to death
I use the air to show my care
By singing you this song
And if you care as well
Then you can sing along
The heart it hears before the brain
So trust it when you feel
Then when we come together
The truth it will reveal
Our hearts they grow like leaves so green
With each breath may they grow
In between us all is green
Like the centre of a rain-bow
I designed a little ritual signature for the sign of Venus as it maps onto the Qabbalah, where I place my palms facing where Keter meets on the Body of Light, swoop them down and around with palms facing outward, forming a circle intersecting spheres 2 and 4, 3 and 5 with left and right hands respectively, meeting at 6. I then place my palms together (near the heart), shoot them downward toward 10, and return to heart. I then point my hands outward, roughly infront of my belly button, and shoot my hands out to either side with palms ending up facing down, then return to belly button.
Wow, I sure do feel loving and loved now ! May you all.
