View Full Version : Donations Reminder...

This site has received almost no donations in several months. At this time of year we have several important bills to attend to such as license renewals and so on so I need to remind people that your donations...even small ones...really do help and really do go right back into the site.

Without the violin sonata, this has been a tough year for me financially since my health has been poor enough to put me on disability insurance with no certainty of recovery. That's just life and I am attempting to rearrange things to be able to do more work from home but in the interim funds have been stretched beyond the breaking point...

So give it a little thought and if you can manage it maybe shuffle a few shackles in AF's direction. The Become a Contributor (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=paypal%40abrahadabra%2ecom&item_name=Abrahadabra%20Institute%20Donation&no_shipping=2&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=USD&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF&charset=UTF%2d8) button at the top of every page works just fine and you don't have to have a PayPal account to use it.

and in any case, thank you all for making this one of the most consistently interesting forums on the web.

M1, do store purchases help you out at all?it might if Zazzle honored their own system but they don't. They have this deal where if people order through your promotional link (in my case http://www.zazzle.com/m1thr0s* (http://www.zazzle.com/m1thr0s*) with the astorisk at the end) you're supposed to get 17% royalties - otherwise you only get 10%. But there's no way for artists to monitor that, and then of course they don't pay you at all unless you clear a certain amount in sales first. I know of several situations where people used that link and I still only got 10% (which I could not collect for lack of quota) - so I lost motivation with them and will probably be closing that down. Haven't seen a penny from it so far and I stopped adding things 6 months ago or so...

Some kind of AF Store is a good idea...but not that I think.

and i'm involved in a dispute with paypal, so I'm on HOLD there...ugghh...good luck with that...I had a fight with them a couple of years ago and it's very frustrating...they hold all the damn cards.

can you PM a mailing addy for some snail mail cash....I was pokin around for the institute address from the other thing, but have mis-placed it.Yes, I can do that. I'd give it to you publicly but right now I am using a private residence address instead of a PO Box that I don't want handed out...I'll send you a PM...thanks fr. novum...

hey, M1thr0s,

I get my UE insurance check in few days and I'll try to get a little something-something out to you. I know I don't participate much, but I appreciate what you and other senior members have done here. It's well worth it.

All the best,
9DH

Well I don't have a credit card... last time I contributed I stole my girlfriends

But she just got a raise so I will see what I can do when she's asleep!

I have worked with fundraising for seven years so I could do a lot of aid in this sector actually... even if this site is for an extreme minority (although it doesn't need to be)!

Before the year is ended I promise... and if I forget remind me.

I won't be offended!

we should talk d - I've looked into *monetizing* this site somewhat but it's pretty much all crap from my point of view. A unique AF Stores would be cool but then you're into production/shipping/marketing issues and it's really hard to find drop-ship vendors that will also handle on-demand custom orders (which we would need starting from scratch)...

Anyway...they make it more complicated than it ought to be so conventional fundraising may actually be the ticket...at least to give us some kind of traction...

Yeah, we can have a PM dialogue on this, but I prefer chat/msn because it is a quicker way of bouncing ideas...

The golden rule of fundraising is: dare to ask!

Might sound simple, but most times this is ignored. The replies to this thread proves that people want to donate, but won't unless asked! It is human nature...

It's not like you give money to some poor guy on the street if he doesn't ask for it. Same kind of thing!

m1htr0s I thought I told you to remind me!

I will try and get some dollars your way sometime next week!

And so should the rest of you...

There are 66 active members, if only half of these gave 10 dollar twice a year it would amount to 660 dollars! A little becomes a lot quickly!

lol...thanks d...

guess I didn't take the *reminder* all that seriously...maybe I should rethink that... ;)

Greetings -

My money situation is laughable.

Let us just say everything I make is controlled down to the penny.

I have no ability to move money electronically at all.

Well, I do, but for emergency reasons.

I am an artist - you may ask me for something else in exchange.

Luck and strength regarding your health.

Yo.

It's no big deal Cove...thanks for the positive thoughts. Who knows, maybe this site will somehow help you to sort everything out in some unexpected way and your luck will begin to turn...if it can do something like that then it would surely be worth contributing to it every now and then...

and if not...then not...people's presence here and their creative contributions are worth far more than money anyway... :)

Just to let you know...I still don't have a pot nor a window out of which to empty it. Soon as I get on my feet (hopefully...someday) I'll get something off to you.

This site is well worth whatever anyone can contribute. I've not found a more serious or informative site anywhere.

And it just keeps getting better.

The Cove: If you can't donate you can always spread the word on this place to people whom you think might like it. The more the merrier.

Just to keep people in the loop...I finally heard back from zonaxx regarding PhotoPost for this site and he agrees that it's a good choice and we apparently do have the necessary software groundwork laid in for it on our servers...

So...it's about $130 for the package if you do the install yourself and I don't have that much set aside for the moment (lame but true...)...I've got a fund started for it that currently has about $70 in it.

Donations to this project will make it happen faster. Otherwise I will keep tossing nickels and dimes at it until we have enough.

thanks for the rally people...looks like we're there on the $130 already...

vBulletin is getting ready to release version 3.7 very soon so I should probably wait on that upgrade and then we'll give this thing a spin...

In the meantime the fund is tucked aside safely so the money is there when we are ready to go...

soon in any case...site might be down for a bit while I get everything configured...I'll try to let everybody know what's up in advance...

we've also got a pretty decent library tucked away from view right now with a lot of pdf's in it etc so I'll be working on getting that up and running here soon also...
