Epigenetics – Is the theory that genes have 'memory' and that it is having
hidden influences upon them much further down the line, that we have genetic ‘memories’ from our forebears.

Look here for explanation of epigenetics: http://www.mcmanweb.com/epigenetics.htm (http://www.mcmanweb.com/epigenetics.htm)

Maybe magickal practitioners of old used kinds or strengths of energy that were recorded and encoded in their bodies and passed down through the generations in the genes. Could that be why some people say magick is just a matter of remembering and why some people seem to develop and recognise different energies so quickly? Are some of us pre-programmed genetically to be adepts?

The article relates the memory to health issues but could there be a ‘switch’ for energy recognition in the body too that gets back to the brain and causes a memory there?

Any thoughts?

Pretty intriguing stuff Radiant Star...Wiki has a pretty good lineup of links as well here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epigenetics)

At some point this has probably got to coincide with morphogenetic field theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morphogenetic_field)as well, since both are interested in exactly how information is stored via DNA. Epigenetics appears to be more focused on how that information is transmitted, but both things have to be understood to answer that question effectively I think.

For what it's worth, the Chinese Sages developed their own theory embedded in the 729 ternary hexagrams. We already know that DNA/RNA are built upon the same mathematical matrix as the binary I Ching but it still does not resolve intelligence. In order to achieve this, a second system was required that integrated intelligence as its own "flux" value, since it was ultimately determined that intelligence could not ultimately be defined by Yin and Yang alone...nor even together (as in the Tai Chi)...it just misses its mark on all counts in the end. So this was a very careful calculation eventually leading up to the inclusion of the "Jen" force.

But there is no avoiding the fact that it makes a prediction regarding genetic science itself...that a another *code* is at play that we have not identified as of yet...one that integrates intelligence into the mix...something contemporary science is extremely reticent to concede, and yet, just like with the Sages of old, they are left in limbo without it. Necessity will eventually force the issue even upon science itself...and this is what I think we are beginning to see occurring. The gaps in the binary system all point to one, seemingly uncomfortable conclusion...that intelligence itself is an elemental component of all physical space and time continuum...

For now this is all just speculation, but then all great science starts out as speculation. Occultists, Hermeticists, Qabbalists, Magicians and Alchemists etc, all share a common advantage over science in being able to go where science itself cannot, and little by little, the slack is taken up by those who do manage to unite these two disciplines by degree...
