ughh...might be a virus...might be adware...spyware...malware...worm or something else...

what antivirus are you using right now?

these days you MUST have a decent antivirus, spyware and firewall installed just to browse freely and even that won't always protect you...

I'm using ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Spybot spyware proggies right now and letting Win XP handle firewall stuff...mostly seems to work pretty good.

aside from internet...can you navigate the rest of your operating system ok?

what browser are you using? Internet Explorer 6, 7? Firefox? Some other?

what Operating system are you on? Windows XP, Mac OS? Other?

I have had occasions where I had to completely dump IE and reinstall for instance...Firefox as well (I tend to visit dangerous sites).

everything runs normally, i use a lot of recording and graphics design software and i detect no real lag. i abhore IE in any form---too easy for people to hack. so i use firefox and opera as my browser. no real lag on anything other then my winamp..but i have a shiester version of winamp and finally converted to a less ram intensive program called foobar for my musick and another less ram intensive program for playing video. i even ran a entire system defrag, ran a virus scan during safemode..meh maybe i need to get a good trojan horse hunter because i think it may be a serious malware issue..although i have read a few forums in britain about using IP masking routers to be able to access myspace so maybe my ip address is banned? i am seriously crippled in my research as i cant use any search engines besides wikipedia.. arrgg!

well there's a whole range of things that might be causing the problem.

generally the best thing to do is run a complete system scan first with virus and spyware programs updated first.

if that checks out you start looking for clues...and that's where it's hard to call from a distance...any weird downloads lately? is your registry confused? I use a program called TuneUp Utilities to monitor the registry and clean out crap occasionally...it's good at finding stuff that is out of place...

It sounds like a browser issue of some kind. If you can't deal with it yourself the next best bet is to find a friend who can I think. I could sort it out if I was right there but over the net is a lot trickier...there's maybe a couple of hundred possibilities initially until you start narrowing things down.

xst...even your mouse can cause all kinds of weird crap to happen but it really sounds like a browser problem. you could try an uninstall-restart-reinstall on Firefox. It may not do any good if you forget to restart between uninstall and reinstall...

wish I could be more help.

its a quirky problem although i hadnt overlooked the idea that the script of the code for my web-browser is skrewed but my fresh copy of opera still has the same ip glitches... im going to contact the company that i get my dsl from tommow as i thik it might be some odd quirk that was caused by a ip protocol! issue in some sense. i know in britain there was a large rash of folk whos myspace were blocked and had to use ip cloking software to be able to access their account. in that aspect i am sort of greatful :P although my only real perturbance with this issue is that i cant upload some of my new songs or new any html coding on any of my websites>? i suppose i will have to avert my old hippie hobbies with my new drug World of warcraft and creating more artistic material to upload to the digital collective concious.

thank you otherwise mithros for humoring me on this issue. your brain is one that i love to pick on certain issues..i have some of my own work in my book of shadows i would love to get your alchemal perspective on.. i hardly use the math..yes i know its a lazy thing to not get into the math of the esoteric..although i tend to prefer more crass models.

just an outside shot...if you are on Windows XP and have *System Restore* activated (it is activated by default) you could try a roll-back to the last date the machine was working ok...
You can access it from your desktop: My Compter-->(right click)-->Properties (click)-->System Restore Tab (click) and follow the prompts...

I have it turned off myself but many people leave it turned on and occasionally it's even useful.
