This is a sticky reserved for the sharing of useful information and resources concerning Yoga, and the various paths/approaches pertaining to it. I will be adding to it as time goes on...Also, if anyone comes across anything of worth concerning Yoga that you consider should be included here, please PM me and I will make sure to include your info ASAP...
Yoga is a Sanskrit word that can be roughly translated in English as "Union with the Supreme", and is often described as the union of Atma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atman_%28Hinduism%29) and Paramatma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramatman). It is a series of ancient spiritual practices (and assorted philosophical doctrines) originating in India, and in Hinduism it is considered as the most direct path towards so-called enlightenment and Self-Realization, or the attainment of the Samadhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samadhi) state. In Yoga, the term Self-Realization is indistinguishable from God-Realization, as one of the basic philosophical premises of the practice is that the true nature of the Self, once fully realized, is in fact the same and ultimately indistinguishable from that of so-called God, informing us that complete realization of oneself amounts to nothing short from the attainment of God-Consciousness proper.
Yoga has numerous schools and paths within itself and is a very diverse spiritual practice, although the four main divisions of it are Karma Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma_Yoga)(or yoga of "right action" in the manifest world), Jnana Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jnana_Yoga)(or yoga of Knowledge, Wisdom and intellectual perception), Bhakti Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhakti_Yoga)(or yoga of Devotion of a religious nature) and Raja Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raja_Yoga)(or yoga of Fire, denoting a path of yoga for gaining control over the faculty of the Mind).
There are numerous other divisions however, although the four divisions mentioned above are generally considered the most basic. Raja Yoga is usually considered the final and most advanced stage of the above, and it's practice involves the famous Ashtanga Yoga or 8 Limbs of Yoga, i.e. Yama (Universal Morality), Niyama (Personal Observances), Asana (Body Posture), Pranayama (Breathing excercises, control of prana), Pratyahara (Control of the senses), Dharana (Concentration of the Mind), Dhyana (Meditation) and, of course, Samadhi (Union).
