i get a fairly substantial insurance settlement check that allows me to live in a modest apt. + essentially covering all my basic bills =excluding the costs of drving a car-of which i own but dont currently drive to save money---my main modes of transportation are the bus and my vintage schwinn cruiser..ie trying to adapt the lving simply agendum attachment to consumerist memes....unfortunately though i am still wanting more money to subsist on and am at a loss of more creative ways to make extra money besides the usual wage slave ritual..

i've done temp work and day labor, sold pot for a while(of which i will never repeat due to paranoia of incarcertation and being that i value my freedom over all things). so far i was going to get into picking things--huckleberries, rare mushrooms in the forest, possibly growing salvia divinorum and experimenting with making a more potent variety...

any ideas at more creative ways to make money would be apreciated..perhaps this thread can evolve into one about creative non-traditional ways to make income..preferably focused on self employment versus..wage slavery.

Well there is one way, but it does take some hard work!

What I do is that I work like a maniac for 2-3 years saving everything I earn, and then I can live of those savings for another 3-5 years (depending on how cheap I am). In this way I do the wage/slavery in a more compact manner! And the freedom of not having to work is more lengthy without interuptions. For me the next break is december 2009. My plan after that is to not work until at least 2015... and if I manage to sell some of my creative work during those years of non-work then I will never have to do the wage/slavery thing ever again. Anyway this is one tip, but it takes a great deal of patience and will!

Another tip is to rob a bank (and no that is not a joke)!

I have more tips but they are all related to where I am and not where you are, so they won't do you any good. The system is different in each nation even if the main theme is the same.

You mentioned plants so you might want to try growing ginsing, the older it gets the more it costs. You could just find a remote place place in the woods and plant it and leave it be but that wouldn't be immediate money.

craigslist usually has a pretty wide open range of jobs and services...worth a gander.

Five mini-jobs equals one job. My advice: use small income sources to cover your needs while you develop some product or service that you can build a business with. It might 'strike gold' or it might just get you through while you devote your time to fulfilling pursuits. I avoid selling large chunks of my time to an employer. It numbs the soul. Try nude modeling.

all good ideas

some more "non-traditional" ways to earn money--usually tax free! lol

petitioning- if you see someone petitioning something in your area more then likely they are getting paid--50 cents a signature...you can average a good 150 to 200 dollars a day

lumping-you get paid in cash..unloading semi trucks at the docks...this usually averages about 50-100 dollars a truck and you usually can do three or four trucks in a day

theres also window washing. all u need is a bucket and a squeege...go around your downtown area and ask local buisnesses

striker-ive done this before for a carpenters union-10 dollars an hour to hold a protest sign .

gathering--if you live in a semi-rural area or are close by there are a plethora of herbs, plants, mushrooms, etc. etc. that can be gathered and sold--
in my area morel mushrooms are big and im not to far away from a good depository of huckleberrys which go for decent money

if you live in the sticks invest in a good chainsaw and make sure you have access to a truck..a woodcutting permit is usually about $5 and firewood goes for about $150 to 200 dollars a cord , the only downside is that you need a place to store the wood

delivering things--if you own a car a good slacker way to make extra dough is to deliver the auto trader or other weekly editions--most routes go for about $500 dollars a month --an actual paper route (ie newspaper) averages about $800 a month although you have to work EVERY DAY at five in the morning unless you get a sub.

busking--setting on a streetcorner by a section of town that has a lot of foot-traffic ie by where all the bars/clubs are at on a fri/sat nite ..get a friend involved with another instrument and make sure to start out with some change in your preferred method of recieving income.

Art modeling (usually you can track down a group through a local school)
Standardized patient (You silmulate medical cases for physicians in training: sporadic hours, good pay) Contact your local med school an ask if they have a standardized patien programme. This job is cooky, and very interesting, in my experience. I once silmulated a sucking chest wound. Lots of makeup and fake blood
Snowshoveling (big business here, but anywhere you can do odd jobs, garden work, etc...)
Birthday parties and celebrations If you have an entertainment skill like clowning, or facepainting, or magic, or even drawing caricatures, you can market your skills by word of mouth (or other means) to families or groups that regularly party. It is possible to go full time with this after a while, and then you're your own boss. There are seasonal surges. Watch out for Christmas. ($$$)
Movie extra depends where you live but you can totally get bit parts in movies if you look for it.
Baking if you can bake, or cook, you can easily run a home business making bread or muffins, or cookies for local shops.
Busking Passive or active busking? Are you the guy doing their thing that people pass by and give $ to, or are you the guy who ropes a ton of people in to a big show and then passes the hat (along with catchy one-liner stock jokes). Both methods work well, depending on who you are. You can also tour the festival circuit if you have a good act.
Bike courier You will learn a Lot about the inner web of workings of your city (especially in a government town), will end up with access to restricted areas (Carefully monitered access), and if you don't get creamed by a car (beware the "door prize"), you can make some good money. You will feel like Hermes, big time.
Getting grants for art is not bad at all, but the application process is hard work.
Begging with a funny sign (I gave $2 to the guy whose sign read 'Go Fuck Yourself')
Crime
Don't go there myself... Broad Tossing might be one way of scaring up some big money if you live in a major city... (3 card monte: it's a scam)
Grad school. Will usually pay you if you have a decent record and some people to recommend you. You get to learn and be payed for it. Don't climb into the anus of the jargon-monster.

A bit difficult but get a life insurance and fake your own death... it has been done before. Just don't come back to life - officially that is!

Great! this is some good stuff!

This is kind of opposite, but will cheapen one's living, which is actually half the battle....I am a huge supporter of growing our own food. In some parts of the world one can grow almost all year long. I'm unfortunately in a place where it snows heavily for half the year so I could only supply a few months worth of food.

Not only growing food, but making your own cosmetics, cleaners and just about everything else used around the house. I recently started making my own laundry detergent which is costing me around .16USD per load of laundry. Back to basics here, essentially...we pay for convenience all over the place.

thats a good idea too carbon class six..mastering the art of thrift and bargain hunting can help too..as well as doing a lot of DIY, i am both a rather adept bicyle/car mechanic and computer fixer just so it can save a bit of money.

i have a few friends who have a plot in the community garden and talked me into doing it this next year...

als am actually looking forward to moving into a wifi zone so i can cut off my internet---its $50 a month i'd rather spend on weed.

if you become a vintage/thift lover as well you can save a lot of money..

also if you have a good idea for things of value you can turn a decent profit reselling things you find at thriftstores and yard sales..sell it on ebay or your local craigslist

oh and i forgot a few other ways to make some petty cash-

donating plazma- usually your first two donations are $50 a pop, ive done this for years..ill buy a new pair of boots every year just donating the first two times and then coming back the next year to register

online surveys--have done this a little bit, and its not a huge money maker but you can at least have some beer or coffee money--wine money? usually the surveys-the paid ones anyways vary between two dollars and 15 dollars a survey..the only pain in the ass about it is that you have to do a little research and find a large amount of survey companies to "work" for...but their is quite a
few good sites to help you.

some malls still have places that will pay you $15 to do surveys too, they dont usually have a office but have people wander around the mall.

also dumpter diving can be quite profitable if you know where to look..if you need a free meal or depending on the dumpster you can find a lot of great stuff.
so far i've scaveged quite a bit of decent stuff--some very decent clothes, a tv dinner table, spice rack,

i've actually taken to bartering with friends and aquaintances for usage of their laundry. it usually involves doing a bit of yardwork or me making them some of my
signature stir-fry.

do you have a recipe for the laundry detergent carbon? that sounds like a damn good idea.

its good to penny pinch sometimes to cut expenses down. im hoping to save up for a downpayment on some property so that i can build my own little place and grow my own food and herbs..then perhaps i might learn to hunt deer and elk to get my meat--then i could possibly be entirely self dependent..ideally running my electric off of solar panels and heating my place with wood that i would cut myself..the only factor i havent been able to sort through is keeping my internet going...

im thinking more of setting up a sattelite system to get my internet. then wiring my tv so that i can download stuff off the net and play it on my TV...most of what i watch anyways is free documentarys posted online and such.. but i'll definately have a batch of some good cubensis going..but they tend to grow wild where i am planning on getting property! :) shrooms and magick go well together...

Lol MM...I dunno if I could deal with all the porn on the net running through my head while losing face:laugh: But please, Fr. If you do make the connection, sign on as Fr. Lou Safari so I know you're really out there :p

Here actually is a large list of home made goods compiled at the shroomery, which is where I got the recipe for laundry detergent:

I made the powdered laundry detergent.
