Szeptem (pronounced shEptem, from szept. 'whisper' n.).
In Polish folklore, spells and incantations are whispered. This magickal whispering is called szeptem.
I find whispering a much more effective and focused technique (in the context of working solo) than voicing out loud or roaring an incantation. The latter can lead to one's focus being distracted and can be somewhat ridiculous whereas the former is sharp, free of mental distractions and is more subversive.
In front of others, being loud will hardly inspire awe or dread (quite the opposite), whereas whispering is far more sinister.
Any thoughts?

Sounds a good idea, particually in a shared house situation. Ever noticed how people sometimes tell a story and do the part where someone shouted as a whisper? Maybe there is a frequency/tonal link between a shout or a whisper? I'll try this anyway.Thanks.

I'm sure it has its applications. I find that when I am doing talismanic work the most natural way to enchant formulas follows this *whisper* technique, in part because they can get going fairly quickly but perhaps also because their is no reason for others to hear them anyway (I almost always do this sort of work alone). The downside to this technique in group workings is probably that it is very difficult to *sing* an incantation effectively if whispered, and I have always thought it best to sing incantations in a group setting. I agree that just *shouting* out incantations always seems to come across rather stupidly and just doesn't feel right. We have no reason to assume the Spirit World is deaf or anything and in general it just comes across as forced and ham-handed. Kind of embarrassing in most instances...
So I think there is a time and place for both methods, eg, whispering amd singing...I'm not so convinced there is ever any good reason to shout an incantation!

I quite agree. I was talking here in the context of working solo. As you say, whispering wouldn't make sense in a group instance.
There are of course other instances in solo works where singing has a place (I literally had to sing for my supper for years).

A (to me) interesting and maybe well-known fact that I have found out is that whispering (anything, neednt make any sense, even) will make you seem genuinely crazy whereas sighing will annoy the hell out of others...lol.
I agree, whispering is cool, silence though (we had a topic here, recently) if mastered/practised to some degree can be very very powerful, also.

Without even vocalizing it whispering or shouting in the mind has relative effect.
Talking on your hands-free headset about occult topics will send locals scattering in small towns...
they've never heard of Bluetooth but they've heard of demons, lulz
I don't think whispering is sinister at all, it's sweet
