News of the Weird: Giant rat, frogs with fangs found in volcano

Among the species discovered recently in Papua New Guinea were tiny bear-like creatures, frogs with fangs, fish that grunt, kangaroos that live in trees, and what is probably the world's largest rat (with no fear of humans). Scientists from Britain, the United States and Papua New Guinea announced the findings in September, among more than 40 new species from a jungle habitat a half-mile deep inside the centuries-dormant Mount Bosavi volcano crater.http://ydr.inyork.com/ci_13801262
Pretty wild stuff. I'd like to have some of those frogs, I bet if you lick them you'd see some wild shit!
PS
[deleted by author due to unnecessary ribaldry] My friend told us that story (that happened at the York, PA Hooters, in the bathroom) over the New England/Colts game Sunday night. Patriots suck!

:)Isolated environment natural evolution species are always some of the most unique creatures. Amazing how they are still being discovered today. AV.

It is serious. Very serious. So serious, in fact, that I posted it in Off-Topic Discussion.

Actually, to me this is serious subject. These discoveries strike me as double edged. Part of me thrills at seeing new or newly revealed adaptations, and yeah, I have been tracking the recent spate of cataloging as new pockets of biological isolation are encountered, what..the past two or three years? - great stuff, unprecedented. But part of me is a little disheartened because whenever we expose new depths of flora and fauna, it is because we are treading places that should not be disturbed. Places the are essential to the ecological balance of the world. And usually as well we have to hope that they can be locked down and protected before the developers get their hands on it.
...admittedly, a volcano is not prime real estate, but some of the other places are lush and deep - and filled with little biological wonders that may actually save our asses before the end. When they are disturbed, it shows me how far we have invaded the forests and reefs, and an unsettling tone vibrates into my seat-in-my-belly, that warns to leave these places alone. Treading.
But the photos are real cool :P Like I said - double edged for me.
