My Father taught me to read tea leaves when I was quite young. The method I was taught is fairly standard and is virtually identical to methods I've read in books, but I have a special fondness for this type of divination. My father himself learned it from his great uncle on the Native American side of the family (my paternal grandmother's uncle.) I'm not sure where my great-great uncle learned it. Also, I just really like tea! haha. There is something comforting and homey about this kind of divination that I enjoy.

Here's the method I was taught by my father:
Make single servings of tea for each person by putting loose leaves (an opened tea bag will do in a pinch, but these usually contain fillers in addition to the tea leaves) in the cup/mug and pour boiling water over it. Add milk and/or sugar to taste.
Each person should drink as much of the liquid from their cup as possible and leave only the leaves (which is really hard to do without drinking some of the tea leaves, and that's ok. haha)
Each person who wants a reading then flips their cup upside down onto their saucer, and making a wish, rotates their cup clockwise three times (like grinding it into the saucer, but without the force.) The wish is not said aloud and is kept secret by the maker of the wish.
Let it sit for a little bit then take the cup of the person who first requested the reading and look at the patterns and shapes in the tea leaves.
Interpret according to your intuition of what the shapes in the tea leaves mean.
Continue doing readings until you don't feel like doing them anymore or until you'd done them all - whichever comes first.
For any additional readings, pick up the cup and give a funny/mocking one-liner such as my favourite, "from this large clump of leaves, I see that you are well overdue for a bowel movement."I've heard of coffee grind readings being done in a similar manner, although I've never tried it.

I think it would be fun to try doing online tea leaf readings here on the forum. Anyone who wants to subject themselves to... er.. I mean "request" a reading should follow the first three steps listed above. Then let the cup sit upside down for a bit (couple minutes or longer) and then take a photo or two of the resulting patterns. To keep it from getting too confusing/chaotic, these photos should probably be posted in new threads, each titled "[username]'s Tea Leaves [DD/MM/YY]". Then myself and/or anyone who is interested can respond to individual threads (each representing a unique reading request) with their interpretations. If it's popular enough, maybe we can have a sub-forum section to house all these threads.

Edit: May 16, 2007 - I'm not offering free online tea leaf readings anymore. You all missed out BIG TIME!!! ;)
