It's funny the things you can overlook sometimes or just take for granted. This came up in the office a few days ago so it occurs to me I should clarify it for everybody...

Inviting your friends into this community is not only ok...it is very much encouraged. We haven't jumped through all kinds of marketing hoops to make this site some sort of megalithic monster forum or anything for a very good reason...by in large the people that find their own way here through word-of-mouth seem to be the kinds of people we really want here anyway.

Having an intelligent forum that feels personal is a hard thing to find and so far we've been pretty lucky this way. At the same time, we are on a great server and we all like diversity I think. It's very frustrating to log into a board and make a post and then have to wait for several days for anybody to respond. I don't know about anybody else, but I eventually lose interest in those forums.

It's also nice when conversations aren't all about the same damn thing. I obviously love my favorite subjects but I also crave topics I know nothing about...it's just really hard (and a little ridiculous) for me to start such topics myself. So diversity is a good thing and a reasonably engaging turnaround is a good thing and in general, the more people you have involved the more interesting it all becomes...

So yeah...invite your friends...cuz if YOU like them there's a real good chance the rest of us will too and that's really the very best way to build communities of this kind anyway...

all done...that didn't hurt too bad did it?

I've been inviting people! The main thing is to disabuse new memebrs of the notion this is *only* about MA - of course thats a focus but there are so many forums here. At first i felt a bit hesitant posting about herbalism, Tarot Witchcraft etc but that's what the forums are here for, so let's use them and invite new people as well.

You're very right m1thr0s that combining the "casual conversation" fun parts with more serious areas of inquiry is a bit tricky, and most forums fall on one side or another, either too stuffy or too chatty and not enough substance. - one reason I appreciate AF so much is the nice balance we have here. I'm sure others will appreciate it as well, so let's get the word out. I use the Forum URL when I post to other lists, which isn't much anymore since I love this one s much.

Mind you - even without new people,we have a very diverse, mature and interesting membership already.

thanks feranaja. your enthusiasm is contagious...lol

we'll grow in any case...once you reach a certain size it's more or less inevitable. the whole point of inviting friends really is to try to steer that growth a little more the way you'd like it to go...keeps it "in the family" as much as this may be possible for a public forum...

anyway...no big rush or anything. Due to the intensity of some of our topics here I think people aren't always sure if it might be an intrusion to invite their friends in. It isn't. Nobody here is so fragile that a little diversity is going to break them...

If it gets to be a bit too much, take some extra Vitamin C and quietly tell me to simmer down...

I'd like to see a few more tarot enthusiasts and Witches, but that's not to say I'm not enjoying the topics we have...I'm learning a lot from you all.

Absolutely - bigger ins't always better. The important thing is that people who belong at AF, find us...and that once they see Nuhad is here, they dont run away screaming.

He'll be back online tomorrow and I'm sure I'll be sorry I said that...
