We had already decided to do this a couple of months ago but none of us have been very diligent about it yet. In part this may be because it needs to be explained to everybody first.
Abrahadabra.com has an account with Amazon.com as do many websites. Some of the books you see listed in the Resource Pages will link directly to Amazon.com, either for additional information or to allow you to buy the book directly if you're in the mood to do that.
But beyond that, on a site like this, book discussions will come up periodically simply because of the nature of these forums. If you happen to see a little
placed after a book title that you may have mentioned in one of your posts and also see that the book title itself is now underlined, it doesn't mean you are going crazy...it means we have noticed the book and decided to link it to Amazon.com. The
is going to be our way of letting everybody know that this has happened. Occasionally a title may have been mispelled or slightly misquoted so we may also make these minor cosmetic changes as the need arises.
Just because a book has been linked doesn't mean you are expected to do anything about it. Some people would prefer to not do business through Amazon at all and that's perfectly ok. The problem from a site management point of view is simply that Amazon has a very well established affiliates program, whereas so many publisher's have none at all. They also have a very good track record with delivering the books they sell, almost always in a timely manner (though not absolutely always). They have order-tracking, order-cancelling, help-desk support and all the kinds of features people usually want with online purchasing, so if any problem does come up you are not left stranded with nothing you can do about it. All in all, they are still about the best at what they do.
If you do see a book you like and you do purchase it through a link found on this site, we will get a very tiny little percentage of that sale...not enough really to even jump up and down about, but by the time we might have several thousand books linked, it might actually amount to $100.00/mo (on a very good month)...seriously...it's that small...but it helps.
So no pressure at all, aside from a very minor editing intrusion that will otherwise have no impact on your posts at all. This is just one of those things we need to do because it's sort of dumb not to do it.
thanks everybody,
